Ethiopia
Detailed product description
This coffee comes from Gatta Farm, nestled in the heart of Shantawene village in the Sidama Bensa region of Ethiopia. Sitting at an altitude of 2,120–2,210 meters above sea level, the farm is surrounded by lush forest, centuries-old indigenous trees, rivers, and waterfalls.
The coffee is naturally processed – cherries are first floated in water to remove under-ripes, then dried on raised African beds and turned regularly to prevent unwanted fermentation.
Gatta cultivates JARC 74112 and local heirloom varieties. In addition to their own harvest, they also source cherries from registered smallholder farmers in nearby communities.
But Gatta Farm is more than just a farm – it includes a drying station, a training facility, and seasonal lodging for workers. Women from the local community play a key role in quality control and processing.
Behind the farm is Daye Bensa, a renowned producer recognized in the Cup of Excellence: 7th place in 2020, 8th in 2021, and an impressive 2nd place in 2022.
